When I was three years old, sitting in my grandfather’s lap, I wanted to do what he was doing. So he taught me how to read. Starting with obituaries.

I started writing at the age of four. Soon I realized I was better at writing than talking and I still am today. I don’t like small talk, never did. But my characters like it and use it and they’re quite good at it. Must be one of life’s ironies.

People assume you must be a smooth talker if you’re a writer. That’s why I’m a writer and not a politician or a stand-up comedian. I observe and I write. I let other people do the talking.
